galaxychap Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 Hiya all, finally got around to starting to wirer up my towbar now ive brought a smartstep bypass relay as in pic below . Ive wired the towbar to pins ABCDEF and run a live fused feed from battery to the lower +12v and connected the white wire to a spare grounding point in the n/s/r compartment. Now what im needing to know is where do the yellow, blue, green, brown, red and black wires go to on the car loom and where to the best place to connect to and what type of connection should i use as those scotchlocs are s--- . I have a circuit tester so i know ill be able to find the right wires i just thought that someone out there has done it before and could tell me exactly what goes to what. Thanks in advance p.sIbrought a new erde trailer from halfords yesterday after lossing a bid for the same one on ebay halfords new price Quote
Topbloke Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 i may be just having a dim moment but what are you asking for, the colors of the wiring on the car for sidelights etc or are you asking what wires to connect to the cars harnes Quote
justme Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 I am going to put on a tow bar soon as well, i will need to know which wires on the Gal connect to the tow bar wires...... If ya know what I mean Quote
Velcrohead Posted March 27, 2005 Report Posted March 27, 2005 When I done my electrics I used scotchlocks (Which I have NEVER EVER had a problem with), I did get some wiring diagrams with my tow bar but had to look at the TIS disc in the end to find the correct loom colours, I wired to the seperate towbar electrics connector but I dont think its included on facelifted models. Velcrohead Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 justme you have a zetec so you wont have one as i understand its only on pre facefift This is as far as I know as well, I have a pre facelift and the connector is in the left hand side cover, the one you remove to change the rear light bulbs. It was tucked away right near the front of the compartment on the floor. bigdaddy Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 so, more info please about this connecter, do you just wire the towbar electrics to this plug or do you still need a bypass relay Quote
Velcrohead Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 You do not need the bypass relay on this connector, the wiring is already isolated. Quote

LHS rearmost compartment - big loom feeds the 2 power sockets, rear LHS light cluster, tailgate & interior load area light.Maybe I should wait to see Velcrohead's photo?CheersCurious Paul Quote

mike99 Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 I did a search and found this old thread.I have just fitted a towbar to my 99 zetec tdi. I have had a look for the multiplug for the towbar wiring but can't find anything in the nsr panel. in the osr panel there are plugs but are all connected to things for the tailgate. on the wiring harness there is the usual sticker and it says trailer on, so I checked the feeds but theres nothing for indicators?? Does anyone know if mine has a plug for the lighting on a trailer? or do I have to wire into the existing lights. Thanks,Mike. Quote
